ถ้าใครได้ชมรายการ Thailand\'s Got Talent ซีซั่น 2 เมื่อช่วงเย็นวันเสาร์ (2 มิถุนายน) ที่ผ่านมา คงจะต้องประทับใจกับเสียงร้องทรงพลังของผู้หญิงตัวเล็ก ๆ อย่างคุณ กิ๊ก วารุณี สุวรรณรักษ์ อย่างแน่นอน กลับบทเพลงคลาสสิคอย่าง What\'s up (what\'s going on) ของวง 4 non blondes ที่คุณกิ๊กถ่ายทอดผ่านความรู้สึกออกมาได้ไพเราะจับใจคนดู จนทุกคนพร้อมใจกันลุกขึ้นปรบมือให้เธอด้วยความชื่นชม
และแน่นอนชื่อของ กิ๊ก - วารุณี สุวรรณรักษ์ ก็กลายเป็นชื่อที่ใครหลาย ๆ คนต่างค้นหา เนื่องจากอยากรู้ว่า ผู้หญิงธรรมดา ๆ คนนี้เป็นใครมาจากไหน เพราะในรายการเธอกล่าวเพียงสั้น ๆ ด้วยใบหน้าที่เปื้อนน้ำตาว่า เธอเป็นเพียงผู้หญิงคนหนึ่งที่เรียนจบแค่ ป.6 แต่ต้องทำงานหาเลี้ยงครอบครัว
สำหรับ กิ๊ก - วารุณี สุวรรณรักษ์ เป็นหญิงสาวชาวยะลา อายุ 32 ปี เธอเป็นลูกสาวคนโตของครอบครัวที่ฐานะยากจน คุณพ่อคุณแม่ของเธอเป็นกรรมกรประกอบอาชีพก่อสร้าง เลยส่งให้เธอเรียนได้เพียงแค่ชั้น ป.6 ส่วนเธอก็ต้องยอมเสียสละ และหาเงินเพื่อให้น้องทั้ง 4 คนของเธอได้เรียนต่อ... แต่ตอนนี้ เมื่อมีโอกาสเธอก็ได้ลงเรียน กศน. เพื่อจะได้คว้าปริญญาอย่างที่เคยฝันไว้
อย่างไรก็ตาม ปัจจุบัน กิ๊ก วารุณี สุวรรณรักษ์ ประกอบอาชีพเป็นนักร้อง รับจ้างร้องเพลงทั่วไป สำหรับเหตุผลที่เธอมาสมัครรายการ Thailand\'s Got Talent ซีซั่น 2 นั้น เธอหวังว่าถ้าหากเธอได้รับรางวัลชนะเลิศ ก็จะนำเงินล้านไปสร้างบ้านให้พ่อแม่ และลูกสาวอยู่
นอกจากนี้ เธอยังกล่าวถึงการร้องเพลงภาษาอังกฤษให้ฟังว่า ที่เธอร้องได้สำเนียงคล้ายต้นฉบับนั้น เป็นเพราะว่า เธออาศัยการฟัง จดจำ และฝึกฝนการร้องเพลงมาเรื่อย ๆ ไม่ได้มีการเรียนร้องเพลงแต่อย่างใด
